Day 1 - Arrive St John's

Arrive in St. John’s and pick up your rental vehicle. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Day 2 - St. John's Sightseeing

We have included a morning sightseeing tour of St John's highlights the cities top destinations. Become acquainted with the city of St. John's and its surroundings, including Cape Spear, the most Easterly point in North America. This is the oldest colonized region in the new world and your local guide will regale you with its steeped history, legends & lore - all flavoured with their personal anecdotes and good humour from which Newfoundlanders are so famous. Enjoy the brilliant vistas from Cabot Tower and Signal Hill, one of the most recognizable skylines in Canada. Walk through a cliffside World War II gun battery, watch for whales and seabirds and visit the oldest standing lighthouse in North America. Other stops include Quidi Vidi Village, Jelly Bean Row, Government House, the Roman Catholic Basilica and an orientation of the shops and restaurants of the downtown core.

Day 3 - St. John’s to Trinity (297 km/184 mi)

Today embark on your journey to the Bonavista Peninsula, known for its scenic and rugged coastlines. The peninsula also contains some of the oldest settlements in Newfoundland, particularly the towns of Bonavista and Trinity. Before settling in to your accommodation for the night, you may want to drive 20 minutes south of Trinity to New Bonaventure and visit the Random Passage Site. Constructed in 2000 for the filming of the international TV mini-series “Random Passage”, the site today provides the opportunity to step back in time and experience what life might have been like in a fishing outpost in the early 1800s.

Day 4 - Trinity

Explore the enchanting village of Trinity with its restored white and pastel coloured clapboard houses. Set along a dramatic coastline you will discover a sense of Newfoundland’s history and nature. Walk through the preserved historic buildings of the village, watch a blacksmith at work, and visit the Cooperage to learn about barrel making. Join the Trinity Pageant, a walking theatre that meanders through the village enticing viewers to live the history of the area.  If you’re feeling active, hike the short but steep 20-minute trail up Gun Hill behind the village for spectacular 360 degree views of the village and surrounding areas.

Day 5 - Whale Watching Experience in Trinity

An opportunity to see majestic whales such as the humpback whale, fin whale, and sperm whale. With marine scapes, sea caves, icebergs (during season), and rugged coastline vistas as your backdrop, your whale watching adventure will follow the coast, remote islands, and communities of Trinity Bay. There may also be wildlife viewing opportunities, with cetaceans such as dolphins and porpoises. During the season, we may spot seals, bluefin tuna, basking sharks, puffins, gannets, eagles, and more.

Day 6 - Trinity to St.John's (283 km/176 mi)

This morning, drive south to the scenic Avalon Peninsula and the town of Bay Bulls (251 km/156 mi) to take a boat excursion to see whales and the Atlantic puffin - if you are lucky you may even spot an iceberg. Along the way explore the little villages that dot the coastline. After your whale watching excursion, return north to St. John’s and settle in for one final night.
