South Africa Self Drive and Safari

Day 1 - East Cape

Arrive in Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) take a private transfer to your chosen Safari Lodge, in time for the afternoon game drive.

Day 2 - Safari

Spend a full day on an African Safri. There will be an early motning and late afternoon game drive during the middle of the day take some time to relax.

Day 3 - Plettenberg

After your morning game drive and breakfast, check out and transfer back to Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha), collect your hire car and continue to the pretty coastal town of Plettenberg.

Day 4 - Plettenberg

Spend the day in the Plettenberg Bay area, perhaps explore the nearby Robberg Nature Reserve, or enjoy a walk on one of the local beaches. Plettenberg also offers a lovely "main street" full of boutique shops, cafe's bars and restaurants.

Day 5 - Knysna

Teke the short drive to Knysna in the heart of the famous garden route. Spend the rest of the day exploring this charming town and it's locale at leisure

Day 6 - Knysna

Today we have included a small group tour to the Featherbed Nature Reserve:

Take the ferry to Knysnas famous Featherbed Nature Reserve with its abundance of plant, bird and small wildlife, including the rare Blue duiker, and a variety of marine life from dolphins to seals and, in season, whales. Once ashore, the 2.2 kilometre trail winds its way through Milkwood Forests up to steep sandstone cliffs overlooking the wild Atlantic Ocean. It also meanders past ancient Khoi sea caves and through indigenous wilderness. On completion of the trail guests head to the restaurant set on the edge of the lagoon for a sumptuous buffet lunch.

Day 7 - Oudtshoorn

Take a drive over the twisting Outeniqua Pass to the semi desert Klein Karoo town of Oudtshoorn. Oudtshoorn is the Ostritch capital of the world and tonight you will stay on a working Oudtshoorn farm.  In the afternoon, we have included tickets for the Cango Caves, one of South Africa's largest cave systems.

Day 8 - Cape Winelands

The drive from Oudtshoorn to Franschoek takes just over 4 hours and is a great "drivers" road, with long straights and twisting mountain passes, the scenery regular changes and the drive itself is an enjoyable part of the trip, rather than just getting from A to B.

Day 9 - Franschhoek

Spend a day in the winelands, sampling the local produce, via the included Wine Tram ticket. 

The Franschhoek Wine Tram hop on hop off tour is one of the best ways to discover the true essence of the Franschhoek Valley picturesque vineyards, breath taking scenery, warm hospitality, world class cuisine, fine wines and a 300 year history.

Passengers aboard the hop on hop off tour will experience a unique and leisurely way to see the Franschhoek Valley as they journey through rolling vineyards in a double decker tram and open air tram bus stopping in at some of South Africas oldest and most distinguished wine estates. A combination of tram and tram bus transports passengers around a loop of stops allowing them to hop off at each stop and experience the activities on offer, be it wine tasting, a cellar tour, lunch or simply a stroll through the vineyards and when they are ready, hop on to continue the tour.

Day 10 - Cape Town

Take the last short drive into the picturesque city of Cape Town. Table Mountain soon comes into view as it looms over the city. On arrival, check into your hotel and then return your hire car. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 11 - Cape town

Today explore Cape Town with the included 48 hour hop on, hop off bus ticket. Highlights include the V&A Waterfront, Table Mountain and Camps Bay.

Day 12 - Cape Town

Continue to explore Cape Town. for those interested, we would recommend pre-booking any visit to Robben Island, just ask your consultant for details.

Day 13 - Cape Town

Last day time at leisure, before your transfer to the airport for your homeward flight.
