Holiday Overview
This is a journey that moves through Western Canada in layers, each one more dramatic than the last. It begins in Calgary, a frontier city grown skyward beside the Bow River, then climbs into the Rockies at Banff, where elk graze at dusk and glacier fed rivers run improbably turquoise. From there, a helicopter lifts the journey into the heart of the mountains and CMH Bobbie Burns Lodge, a wilderness retreat reachable no other way. The onward journey unfolds by rail aboard the Rocky Mountaineer in Goldleaf service, a two day crossing through the Continental Divide, the Spiral Tunnels and the roaring waters of Hell's Gate, ending on the Pacific shore in Vancouver. Mountains, wilderness and rail travel, all within a single sweep across the province.
Banff, Bobbie Burns Lodge and the Rocky Mountaineer Goldleaf Journey includes:
- Flights
- 2 nights Clagary stay
- 2 nights Banff stay with touring
- 3 nights Bobbie Burns Lodge stay
- 2 nights Lake Lousie stay
- Goldleaf Rocky Montaineer

Day 1 - Calgary
A private transfer carries you from Calgary International Airport into a city built on cattle money and oil wealth, its glass towers rising beside the Bow River. Settle into a downtown hotel within easy walking distance of Stephen Avenue Mall.
Featured accommodation
Fairmont Palliser
Day 2 - Calgary on Foot
A walking tour follows Calgary's "ribbon of steel," the rail line that links the city's frontier past with its present. Stories of an 1880s sawmill, the 1988 Winter Olympics and the Folk Fest at Prince's Island Park unfold along the Bow River Pathway and through Stephen Avenue's historic storefronts.
Featured accommodation
Fairmont Palliser
Day 3 - Into the Mountains
The road west follows the Trans-Canada Highway across the Great Central Plains, once home to more than sixty million buffalo, before the peaks of Banff National Park rise into view. Settle into a hotel in the heart of Banff town, then head out at twilight for a wildlife safari, watching for elk, bighorn sheep and the occasional grizzly bear feeding on mountain berries as the light fades.
Featured accommodation
The Moose Hotel and Suites Banff
Day 4 - Yoho and Kootenay's Hidden Gems
A small group tour departing Banff uncovers the Rockies beyond the well trodden paths: Marble Canyon's narrow limestone walls, the thundering drop of Takakkaw Falls, and the impossibly still waters of Emerald Lake, with a picnic lunch taken somewhere along the way.

The Moose Hotel and Suites Banff
Day 5 - Into the mountains by Helicopter
The route climbs through Yoho National Park to a private helipad, where a short flight carries you into the Purcell Mountains and CMH Bobbie Burns Lodge, a place accessible no other way. After a safety briefing, the first hike sets off into the surrounding peaks, followed by aprés adventure refreshments, a soak in the hot tub, and a first gourmet dinner beneath old growth timber.
Featured accommodation
Bobbie Burns Lodge
Day 6 - Walking Among the Glaciers
A full day in high alpine terrain, with a choice of guided hiking or via ferrata across granite faces and moraines shaped by centuries of ice. Lunch is taken in the field, wherever the route leads, before the return flight and an evening of hot tub, massage and a family style dinner shared around the lodge table.
Featured accommodation
Bobbie Burns Lodge
Day 7 - Further Into the Mountains
A second day of exploration reveals fresh terrain: hanging valleys, ridgelines and sun-warmed meadows that shift with the light. Evenings settle into the same easy rhythm, the mountains visible from the hot tub as the sky turns colour.
Featured accommodation

Day 8 - Return to Lake Louise
A final lodge breakfast precedes the last heli-transfer out of the Purcells. The journey continues by road to Lake Louise, where turquoise water meets the base of the Victoria Glacier and the historic Chateau sits on its shore.
Featured accommodation
Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise
Day 9 - Lake Louise
A day to move at your own pace: canoe across water so blue it looks painted, follow the trail up to the Lake Agnes teahouse, take in the glacier's reflection from the lakeside path, or enjoy the hotels Spa facilities
Featured accommodation

Day 10 - Rocky Mountaineer, (Day One)
Boarding the Rocky Mountaineer in Goldleaf service, the train climbs into the Continental Divide, through the engineering feat of the Spiral Tunnels and the sheer walls of Kicking Horse Canyon. Meals are served à la carte in a private dining room below a glass domed carriage, with an open air viewing platform for the passes and peaks along the way. The day ends with a stop at Craigellachie, where the final spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was once driven, before an overnight stay in Kamloops.

Day 11 - Rocky Mountaineer, (Day Two)
The second day traces a gentler descent through winding river canyons and pristine interior forest, past Hell's Gate, where the Fraser River narrows into a churn of white water through solid rock. By evening the train reaches the Pacific coast and the lights of Vancouver.
