On the outskirts of Jaipur, the impressive Amer Fort is without question one of its highlights, towering over the Maota Lake and built from sandstone and marble, the fort has a rich cultural and architectural heritage. It also offers impressive views from its hilltop position.
The Place of the Winds, known as Hawa Mahal in Hindi was built in 1799 for Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, as part of the enormous city place. The 953 windows were designed to allow the ladies of the royal court to watch the drama of the city unfold whilst hidden by the structures intricate design. The City Palace itself is in the heart of the old city, a complex of courtyards, gardens and buildings, it’s an impressive blend of Rajasthani and Mugal architecture.
