Holiday Overview
With a surprise around every corner and over every hill, this tiny territory can be described as beautiful, chaotic and serene in the one sentence! The Hong Kong of the 21st century is one steeped in Chinese traditions, yet at the same time, one that is leading the world in technology.
Prior to the British occupation, Hong Kong was a sleepy fishing village, home to pirates and sea travelers. After 156 years of English rule, Hong Kong was handed back to China on July 1, 1997, with barely a whimper. The proportion of the population who were originally against the handover found themselves adjusting to their new way of life. Today, life in Hong Kong is a wonderful mixture of east meets west, where the old and the new live happily side by side, and comprises of the following areas:
Hong Kong Island is essentially the CBD of the territory. From skyscrapers soaring hundreds of metres in to the sky, to the beautiful seaside area of Repulse Bay, this small piece of land has everything that one could need on a postage stamp sized piece of land.
Kowloon is filled with markets, temples and crumbling buildings, yet it is a heaving, breathing beast in its own right. Filled with culture and colour, Kowloon is more of a softer side of Hong Kong and gives a wonderful view of Hong Kong Island, especially at night time.
The New Territories and Outlying Islands are the weekend getaways for the rich, famous and the not so famous people of this hardworking metropolis. Featuring some of Hong Kong’s most beautiful scenery, life in these areas is slower and friendlier than the busier centres of the territory.

HALF DAY HONG KONG ISLAND TOUR (PRIVATE TOUR)
Duration: Approximately 5 hours
Hong Kong was once a simple fishing village. Today, it is one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities where East truly meets West. See all the highlights of Hong Kong Island on this orientation tour. It is a wonderful way to get to know Hong Kong and its famous landmarks and history.
Start with a ride on the iconic Star Ferry as you cross Victoria Harbour, one of Hong Kong’s greatest assets and a jewel that people marvel at no matter how many times they visit the city.
Next is a ride on the World's steepest funicular railway, the Peak Tram! Pulled by steel cables, the tram climbs 373 metres (about 1,200 feet) and is so steep that the buildings you pass look like they're leaning. Looking down from Victoria Peak, you'll be amazed by the spectacular view of the surrounding city skyline, the world-famous Victoria Harbour and Kowloon, towering skyscrapers and peaceful green hillsides.
From Victoria Peak head onwards to the southside of the Island, continue your tour with a visit to Aberdeen, once home to hundreds of people living on fishing junks and Sampans it’s now juxtaposed against a modern high-rise community and Typhoon Shelter. Now the area is more akin to a Luxury Marina than the days of the “floating village” with only a few remaining signs of what once was. An optional 15 minute sampan ride can be arranged into the typhoon shelter for a close-up view of waterborne life. (At own expense).
You will pass through picturesque Repulse Bay with the option to stop off on your way to Stanley, a popular market town on the sunny south side of Hong Kong Island. Spend the remainder of your tour exploring Stanley's relaxed ambience and markets where bargain buys have made it world famous and a further stroll along the promenade leads you to the tiny Tin Hau Temple of the rock side overlooking the bay.
