Day 1 - UK to Washington DC

Arrive in Washington DC making your way to your chosen hotel, spending the remainder of your day at leisure.

Day 2 - Explore Washington DC

A day at leisure to explore the sights of America’s capital! From the inspiring monuments and memorials lining the National Mall, America’s most visited national park, to the renowned Smithsonian Institution’s 17 museums, galleries, and National Zoo, to the dozens of unique neighbourhoods that make up the city, there is plenty waiting to be explored in the nation’s capital. We have included the Hop on Hop off Bus to help you to navigate the city.

Day 3 - Washington DC to Rocky Gap State Park

Collect your motorhome from the Cruise America depot in Manassas, Virginia, and begin your journey westward towards the Shenandoah Valley. From there, head north into Maryland. Nestled among the Appalachian Mountains and featuring the serene Lake Habeeb, Rocky Gap State Park spans 3,000 acres of public land, making it an ideal haven for outdoor enthusiasts.

Day 4 - Rocky Gap State Park to Gambrill State Park

The Historic National Road scenic byway winds through this area of Maryland, guiding you to your next destination: Gambrill State Park, situated along the Catoctin Mountains ridge in Frederick County. Take in stunning mountain vistas from three scenic overlooks and explore miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.

A full day to explore Gambrill State Park.

Day 6 - Gambrill State Park to Elk Neck State Park

After a few days of refreshing mountain air, it's time for a change of scenery. Today, you'll head east, passing through Baltimore, Maryland’s largest city, and continue to the Eastern Shore. Your destination for the night is Elk Neck State Park, nestled on a peninsula along the scenic Chesapeake Bay.

Day 7 - Elk Neck State Park to Assateague State Park

Keep exploring Maryland’s Eastern Shore as you travel along parts of the Chesapeake Country scenic byway. Along the route, you'll uncover picturesque coastal towns, quaint maritime villages, and stretches of untouched natural beauty. Your next stop is Assateague State Park, located at the northern tip of Assateague Island a barrier island and national seashore, famously home to wild herds of horses.

Day 8 - Assateague State Park to First Landing State Park

Today, you'll complete your journey through the Eastern Shore region as you head into Virginia. Your route will take you across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, a remarkable 17.6-mile bridge-tunnel that spans the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. Your destination is First Landing State Park, the historic site where English colonists first landed in 1607, earning the park both National Natural Landmark and National Register of Historic Places honours.

Day 9 - Virgina Beach

A full day to explore Virginia Beach.

Day 10 - Virgina Beach to Chickahominy Riverfront State Park

Today, your route takes you through Virginia’s Tidewater region. Stop at Chickahominy Riverfront Park, where you can enjoy the park’s scenic river with amenities like a 290-foot lighted fishing pier, a boat ramp, and equipment rentals. The park also lies along the Virginia Capital Trail, a 52-mile cycling and pedestrian path connecting Richmond, Virginia’s current capital, to Williamsburg, the state’s former capital.

Day 11 - Chickahominy Riverfront State Park to Douthat State Park

Today, travel west along scenic rural roads to Douthat State Park. Established in 1936, Douthat was one of Virginia’s first six state parks and is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places for its design, which contributed to the development of parks across the nation.

Day 12 - Douthat State Park to Shenandoah National Park

No motorhome tour of the region is complete without a visit to Shenandoah National Park. The 105-mile Skyline Drive, a stunning scenic byway, winds along the mountain ridgeline through the park. Numerous overlooks offer opportunities to stop and enjoy breathtaking views of the Shenandoah Valley. Inside the park, the Mathews Arm, Big Meadows, and Loft Mountain campgrounds feature both pull-through and deep back-in sites for your convenience.

Day 13 - Explore Shenandoah National Park

A full day to explore Shenandoah National Park.

Day 14 - Shenandoah National Park to Washington DC

The park’s boundary ends in Front Royal, and from there, it's a 40-mile drive to return your motorhome to the Cruise America depot in Manassas. Spending the night in your chosen hotel before you return flight the following day.
