Relax in nature onboard this scenic river cruise along the Gordon River. As you cross the harbour to enter the Gordon River, your cruising speed drops and you glide slowly upstream on the still waters of this true wilderness waterway. You’ll cruise gently along the river where stands of lush rainforest are reflected in the mirror calm waters, stained amber by button grass tannins. You’ll disembark at Heritage Landing where an elevated boardwalk threads its way into the green silence of the rainforest.

You’re now walking in the largest tract of temperate rainforest surviving on earth. Here, you’ll see rainforest species including sassafras, blackwood, myrtle and the fabled, long-lived Huon pine. Your guide will lead you to a living pine in this forest that is thought to be 2,000 years old. This ancient tree split in two in 1997, but its roots still survive and now support a new generation of saplings. You’ll reboard the cruise in time to enjoy your chef-prepared on board buffet as you cruise back along the Gordon River towards your next destination—Sarah Island.

Once a dreaded penal colony and the largest boat building settlement in the British colonies, Sarah Island is now a fascinating historic site. You’ll have the opportunity to walk among the ruins of this once thriving settlement as your guide recounts astonishing stories of the convicts, soldiers, settlers and shipwrights who lived and worked here. After exploring Sarah Island, you’ll make the return cruise to Strahan, gliding
