Oregon Holidays

Oregon has high desert country to the east, balmy coast to the west, and mountains, rivers and forests in between and is divided into seven tourism regions: Oregon Coast, Portland, Mt. Hood & The Columbia Gorge, Willamette Valley, Southern Oregon, Central Oregon and Eastern Oregon.

Eastern Oregon’s got a little bit of everything: wide-open skies, sagebrush plains, remote ski slopes, rivers teeming with steelhead and don’t forget the craft beer. History buffs will delight in wagon ruts from the Oregon Trail, vibrant prehistoric fossil beds and eerie ghost towns. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg in Oregon’s “wild west.”

Central Oregon is home to powdery slopes of a volcano, rivers that sparkle with fish, sky-high mountains, world-renowned golf courses and one-of-kind scenic bikeways. Taste the accomplishments of craft connoisseurs on a beer trail or après-ski. Hide away in a cozy cabin and make fresh snow tracks in the forest. All of these natural wonders not only draw visitors, but also provide a home to more than 214,000 Oregonians.

Home of the towering volcanic peak of Mt. Hood and the stunning Columbia River Gorge, this region is a haven for outdoor recreation and agritourism. Within these boundaries you’ll find no end of delights. Hiking and biking trails weave in and around the woods, with the reward in the journey as much as the viewpoint. The valleys are peppered with farms and orchards, and the table set with seasonal ingredients and craft drinks. Sometimes all the wonder can’t be put into words; it’s best to experience the region for yourself.
In 1967 Oregon passed the pioneering beach bill, ensuring all 363 miles of Oregon’s coastline remain free and public. That means endless opportunities to comb for agates or glass floats, catch your own Dungeness crab or razor clam, watch for whales, seals and puffins, make footprints in the sand or simply be captivated by a winter storm from inside a cozy beachfront lodge.

Southern Oregon is a region that offers wine and food trails, world-famous theaters and galleries, Wild and Scenic Rivers and colorful landscapes that are so idyllic, they look like they were painted. It’s also home to Crater Lake National park and the Oregon Caves National Monument.
Like its monikers, Portland is pretty unique. It has world-renowned chefs and hundreds of food carts; art in theaters and outside on the street; the world’s largest independent bookstore and highest concentration of craft breweries; a huge urban forest; and a bridge reserved for bicyclists. This isn’t your typical city. If Portland wasn’t so different, it wouldn’t be Portland.

In the Willamette Valley, farms, vineyards and forests reign supreme. This is a region where trails wind through old-growth forests to surging waterfalls and epic vistas, wine grapes grow on verdant rolling hills and scenic backcountry roads are dotted with historic covered bridges. These communities are tight-knit and chock-full of artisans. It’s easy to see why the region lures visitors from near and far.
