The hotel sits right on the edge of ByWard Market, Ottawa's historic market quarter, with its stalls, shops, restaurants and nightlife just a short walk away. The Rideau Canal locks and Parliament Hill are close enough to reach on foot, and the National Gallery of Canada, the National Arts Centre and the Shaw Centre are all a few minutes' stroll further on, with Major's Hill Park right alongside the canal. Sussex Drive runs along the far bank, linking through to some of the city's other national institutions. It's roughly a 20-minute drive from Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport, making the Château Laurier a straightforward base whether you're arriving by air or joining a wider rail or self-drive itinerary through Ontario.
In our experience, few Ottawa hotels combine history and location quite like the Château Laurier. Its central position makes it a genuinely easy base for sightseeing on foot, and Fairmont Gold is worth considering if you'd like a quieter floor and lounge access to retreat to after a day exploring the capital. If you're celebrating a special occasion, it's worth asking about a Fairmont Gold upgrade when you book, as the view and lounge access are often worth the difference.
