There are two parts to the province – Newfoundland is the island and Labrador shares a border with Québec on mainland Canada. To connect to the island from Labrador and vice versa you can fly, or take a ferry across the Strait of Belle Isle.
The unique culture of Newfoundland and Labrador is a product of English, Irish, French, and Indigenous heritage. This province’s history is rich with stories and legends, explorers, and inventors. Newfoundland and Labrador is home to some of the country's finest artists and performers. Live music of every kind is never far, particularly along George Street in St. John’s, and at bars and festivals across the province.
Newfoundland and Labrador have three National Parks and one National Park Reserve, it is also home to 18 wilderness and ecological reserves, and incredible botanical gardens. With more than 29,000 kilometres of coastline, it's not hard to spot plenty of whales, seabirds, and icebergs. There are 22 species of whales alone, including the world's largest migrating population of humpbacks - the season for whale watching is May through to September. Iceberg Alley is a spectacular sight with the chance to see 10,000 year old Icebergs - late May and early June is the best time to see them.
With a new direct flight from London Gatwick to St. John's there is never a better time to visit and explore this breathtaking destination.
