Malacca is a Unesco World Heritage site, situated approximately half way between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Malacca was a key port on the spice route between India and China. In 1511 the Portuguese invaded, in 1641 Malacca passed into Dutch hands for around 150 years, when it then came under British control, each leaving their own mark on the city.
