Pirate Cove sits on a quiet two kilometre beach in Drake Bay, on the Osa Peninsula, with thick rainforest behind it and the Pacific out front. It's one of the wildest corners of Costa Rica, and there's no sense of a big resort here. With just twelve rooms, the lodge feels more like a hideaway. Deluxe cabins have private balconies, and there are also standard cabins, bungalows and rooms with air conditioning. Every room has hot showers and electricity around the clock, so the simple, close to nature setting comes with the comforts that matter.

Wildlife is part of daily life. Monkeys move through the trees around the lodge, toucans sit high in the canopy and scarlet macaws streak red across the bay. The big adventures start from the shore: diving and snorkelling around Caño Island, boat trips to look for dolphins and whales, and days in Corcovado National Park, which is famous as one of the most biologically intense places on earth. Closer to home, you can kayak, go horse riding or spend an hour with binoculars watching the birds. Meals mix European and Costa Rican cooking, with homemade bread and puddings and breakfast included. At night, the only sounds are the surf and the forest.
