Port Hardy Experiences

Port Hardy (population: 4,000) is the last bastion of civilization in the remote and wild north end of Vancouver Island.

The town has a fascinating blue-collar history and a bright green Eco tourist future as it evolves into one of North America’s best as yet undiscovered outdoor adventure destinations.

Below is a small selection of the tours we can organise for you when you have booked your Canada holiday with us and are visiting Port Hardy.

Without a doubt, one of the most amazing things to see at San Josef Bay are the sea stacks. These are ocean-eroded sea stacks that have developed over time from water surging through the sandy passages at high tide slowly eroding the softer rock, leaving behind only the harder formations. The small & intimate group sizes make exploring the beach and sea stacks fun and informative. Your knowledgeable guide will lead you to the areas of interest and provide interpretation and tidal pool walks.

Duration: 10-12 hours

Join us to reconnect with nature and learn about First Nations culture in an all-in-one experience that combines respectful wildlife viewing with a sustainable tour through the super natural scenery of northern Vancouver Island and coastal mainland BC.

Low volume tours take a maximum of ten guests on authentic adventures through the natural habitat of Western Canada's grizzly bears. Pacific white-sided dolphins dance alongside the bow of our boat, Mayumi, as we make the one hour and 45 minute journey to the First Nations village of Alert Bay into the beautiful territory of the collective tribes that make up the Kwakwaka'wakw. Eagles soar overhead and animals roam the shell-strewn beaches where ancient villages were once occupied by our people. Enjoy a continental breakfast as we navigate waters favoured by migrating orcas, and listen to your guide's Indigenous interpretation of local landscapes.

After lunch, our traditionally trained guides chart us past old village sites, the birthplace of our ancestors, in the Broughton Archipelago. There we share about the historic and cultural significance of our existence and occupation of the area. This truly unforgettable wildlife experience ends in the Broughton Archipelago and Queen Charlotte Strait, where we often encounter the gentle giants of the Pacific: migrating humpback whales. It is important to note that every season is different and we will take you to wherever we believe you will have the best experience. (Knight Inlet, Thompson Sound, or Bond Sound).
