Booking Campsites

The best part about a motorhome holiday is deciding the route you want to take. Our New Zealand Experts have lots of insightful information they can provide on suggested routes, but you get to book your campsites.

Booking a campsite in New Zealand is entirely dependent on the campground you wish to stay in. Most DOC campsites are generally on a first come, first served basis, whereas you can usually prebook commercial campgrounds. Please refer to the local authorities’ rules and regulations on campsites before you travel.

Can I pick up my RV after coming off my international flight?

No, you can’t pick up your motorhome after coming off your international flight. We will include your pre night hotel stay before you pick up your motorhome to help get over your jet lag.

 

Do I need a special licence to drive a motorhome in New Zealand?

No, a full UK driving licence is accepted.

 

Is there a maximum age for renting a motorhome?

There is no maximum age limit for hiring a motorhome in New Zealand.

 

Which side of the road do they drive on in New Zealand?

Australians drive on the left, the same as in the UK.

 

What is included in a motorhome rental?

Most include insurance, bedding, kitchen equipment, and unlimited mileage. Extras can be added speak to our New Zealand Experts for more details.

 

Is driving in New Zealand safe and easy?

Yes, roads are good, but in rural areas be mindful of long distances.

 

Are one-way motorhome rentals available?

Yes, but dropping off in a different city may include a one-way fee.

 

 

Can I camp anywhere in New Zealand?


You can only stay overnight in designated campsites or freedom camping areas, look for approved zones marked for self-contained vehicles.

 

What’s the best time of year for a motorhome holiday in New Zealand?

The best time for a motorhome holiday in New Zealand is between October and April.

This period covers spring, summer, and early autumn, when the weather is warm, roads are clear, and campsites are fully open.

December to February offers the best weather but is also the busiest.

October–November and March–April is ideal for fewer crowds, mild temperatures, and beautiful scenery.

If you prefer quieter roads and better availability, travelling in spring or autumn is often the best choice.
