The penguin playhouse is a 5,500-square-foot expansion is the largest in Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach’s 20-year history. This new addition includes a brand-new Ocean Wonders gallery with eight new tanks, housing awesome new species of fish from all over the world. Two new state-of-the-art classrooms for programs and school groups allow guests to get up close and personal with these extraordinary birds. These unique experiences lead up to our world-class penguin habitat, with floor-to-ceiling viewing glass more than 50 feet long and a 360-degree crawl tunnel for guests to waddle through and immerse themselves. Stop in to view the penguin nursery, which will house and care for baby penguins. Don’t miss this exciting new exhibit!

Myrtle Beach is Ripley’s hub for scientific research. The Marine Science Research Center made waves in spring 2022 by producing the world’s first successful birth by artificial insemination of a sand tiger shark, advancing research and species survival. This pup marked a significant step for its species around the world. 

From sea turtles to sawfish, Ripley’s Aquarium is constantly on the defense for animals around the world… even the underdogs! On your tour, meet Cheddar, the orange lobster who was rescued from a Red Lobster restaurant in Hollywood, Florida. Employees at the restaurant immediately noticed Cheddar’s beautiful, bright orange color, and they went on a mission to rescue the unique crustacean. Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach answered the call and happily welcomed the extremely rare orange lobster — a one-in-30-million find — to the Marine Science Research Center.
