Cancún was a part of the ancient Mayan civilization and is still considered the gateway to the Mayan World (“El Mundo Maya”). Mayan temples and ritual sites are literally everywhere, some smothered by lush jungle, others easily accessible (one pops up on one of the golf courses). There is even a Mayan temple overlooking the Caribbean Sea in the heart of the Cancún Hotel Zone!

Cancun is situated on the southeast coast of Mexico in the state of Quintana Roo in the Yucatan Peninsula. It is marked by exceptional natural beauty and dotted with lagoons and spectacular beaches. Cancun is one of the most popular spots for a beach holiday across Mexico with its warm white powdery sand beaches and turquoise crystal clear waters. Two of Cancun popular beaches include Playa Gaviota Azul and Playa Delfines is a great spot for people looking for moderate to intense waves.

Boulevard Kukulkan is well known as the hotel zone, this area runs down a 15-mile-long sandbar, in this area you will find many of Cancun’s all-inclusive hotels. In downtown Cancun ‘El Centro’ you will find more of local life away from the popular tourist areas. Here you will find markets and local businesses including shops and restaurants the best way to have an authentic Mexican experience.

Cancun is not all about the beeches it is also rich in Mayan Culture, visit the Mayan Museum of Cancun home to hundreds of Mayan artifacts where you can learn about Mayan history. In the surrounding region there is plenty of archaeological sites in the Yucatan Peninsula make sure to visit El Meco, El Rey, San Miguelito, Tulum, Coba and Muyil among others.
