Beruwala

Beruwala is a beautiful beach area on Sri Lankas southwest coast. Situated very close to Bentota and around halfway between Galle and the capital city of Colombo, its an ideal stop for some relaxation after an itinerary of touring and sightseeing. Beruwala is favoured with Golden Mile beach, an unspoiled golden sand beach beautifully framed with verdant green palm trees on one side and Blue Ocean on the other.

Beruwala is believed to have been the first Moorish settlement on the island, established by Arab traders around the 8th century AD. Ethnically diverse, a large population of Sri Lanka Moors, many of them gem traders, still live in this area, particularly in the “China Fort” district.

The working fishing harbour provides a splash of colour and an early morning visit can afford a view of the local fisherman landing their catch. Alternatively just relax in your hotel, and enjoy the beach or indulge in an Ayurvedic Spa treatment
