The Battlefields were the place were mighty battles were fought in the rolling hills and valleys of northern Kwa-Zulu Natal, over a hundred years ago. It changed the course of South Africa’s history and the area became known as the Battlefields that echo the tales of both heroic and tragic deeds of the past. There are sites that tell the stories of the battles that floored the British, weakened the Boers and broke the Zulu Nation, one of the most powerful cultures on the African continent.

Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift are two of the most famous battlefields in the country, where the Zulu army, armed only with spears and shields, thrashed the British in a battle that would still be talked about today. Eleven Victoria Crosses were awarded to those who defended Rorke’s Drift.
