Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica

Deep in Peru's southern Amazon, Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica sits on the banks of the Madre de Dios River, part of a private 17,000 hectare reserve bordering Tambopata National Reserve. Thirty five wooden cabañas, raised on stilts and styled after Ese'Eja tradition, blend into the rainforest canopy, thatched roofs overhead and hammocks strung for slow afternoons. Despite the sense of remoteness, it's little more than a short flight from Cusco, followed by a river journey through dense green.

Days here move to the rhythm of the forest. A canopy walkway lifts guests thirty metres above the ground for views few travellers ever see, while trails and river excursions reveal a corner of Peru recorded as home to over five hundred bird species. Evenings bring the hum of the jungle closing in, a natural spa treatment perhaps, or simply the dark settling over the Madre de Dios, the rainforest never quite falling silent.
