The Hamptons

The Hamptons, located on eastern Long Island's South Fork, is an expansion of seaside villages most commonly known as a summer destination for affluent New York City residents. The Hamptons is renowned by its long stretches of beaches and an interior of farmland, towns and villages with 18th-century shingle buildings and estates hidden behind tall boxwood hedges. East Hampton is home to high-end restaurants, up-market bars and designer boutiques.

East Hampton is home to the LongHouse Reserve sculpture garden, showcasing works from artists including Willem de Kooning and Dale Chihuly. In Water Mill, the Parrish Art Museum displays contemporary local art. Southampton is known for its "old-money" mansions. Sag Harbor has pebbly bayside beaches, and the Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum occupies a stately Greek Revival building. Montauk Highway, with its farm stands and wineries, is the region’s main artery. Its eastern terminus is Montauk, a laid-back destination for surfing and fishing with many seafood shacks and an iconic lighthouse.
