Over two centuries of Vineyard charm. By far the most iconic Edgartown hotel, the Kelley House opened its doors in 1742 and has since been celebrated as one of the oldest hotels in America. The town of Edgartown has been known throughout the ages as a colonial settlement, whaling community, and an elegant vacation destination. The Kelley House hotel encompasses a long line of tradition and stands as one of the most distinguished historic hotels in all of New England.

It wasn’t until 1891 that the late Mrs. Elizabeth A. Kelley and her husband William Kelley, a famous storyteller, re-opened the hotel and called it the Seaview House, later renamed the Kelley House. The Kelley House's famed hospitality reflected not only Mrs. Kelley’s capable management but her husband’s rare personality. It was at the Kelley House that judges, statesmen, generals and other famous personages enjoyed a gracious atmosphere and Bill Kelley's stories. After Mr. Kelley’s death in 1907, Mrs. Kelley continued to operate the hotel with great success until her death in 1935.
In 1936, Richard L. Colter, Mrs. Kelley’s nephew took over as proprietor of the hotel and renamed it the Great Harbour Inn to mimic the first name of the town of Edgartown.
Kelley House offers well-appointed suites and guest rooms in four distinctive buildings: Main Hotel, Chappy House, Court House, Wheel House and Mizzentop Suites. Each historic building offers spacious accommodations that are imbued with the rich history of Martha's Vineyard and allow guests to truly immerse themselves in the unforgettable experience of a Vineyard holiday.
The Garden House, or main building, offers 42 spacious hotel rooms, featuring classic decor and a casually elegant vineyard vibe. Guest rooms in the main hotel feature either two double beds or one king bed, and are graciously appointed with luxurious bath products, classic and comfortable furniture, and up-to-date amenities.
With authentic Martha's Vineyard charm, Court House's three one, two or three-bedroom suites feature a traditional wraparound porch for relaxing and enjoying the glorious sea and salt air that has attracted visitors to Martha's Vineyard and the Kelley House Hotel for decades. Court House suites offer casually elegant accommodations in the heart of Edgartown, featuring kitchenettes that include a refrigerator, a microwave, and a porcelain sink.
Located on the second floor with King beds in each of the rooms.
From freshly caught lobster to decadent desserts, Vineyard dining is locally focused on what's fresh and in-season. The on-site restaurant is a true representative of this philosophy. The hotel operates two onsite dining venues, The Newes from America Pub and (seasonally) the poolside Wave Bar.
The Newes from America Pub
Named by Travel + Leisure as one of the best places to eat on Martha's Vineyard, this world famous Colonial pub can be found at the base of The Kelley House in the heart of the village of Edgartown. The menu blends American and British pub food favourites, featuring local signatures such as Bangers & Mash, Roquefort Stilettos, and world-famous Fish & Chips. The Newes also offers a wide array of New England draft beers.
