Maryland is a Mid-Atlantic state that's defined by its abundant waterways and coastlines on the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean. Its largest city, Baltimore, has a long history as a major seaport.
Fort McHenry, birthplace of the U.S. national anthem, sits at the mouth of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, home to the National Aquarium and Maryland Science Center. The capital, Annapolis, is notable for the Annapolis Maritime Museum and rich colonial history and architecture, on view at the Hammond-Harwood House, a large Georgian estate-turned-museum. Ocean City, an Eastern Shore resort town, features a boardwalk with amusement-park rides. Cunningham Falls State Park, in the Catoctin Mountains, offers camping and hiking, as does Deep Creek Lake State Park, also popular for fishing and hunting. Maryland is also home to about half of the Capital Beltway, within which are several Washington, DC, suburbs with historic sites and antiques shops. Blue crabs are Maryland's culinary specialty.
Below is a selection of cities we feature in our Maryland itineraries.
