The lodge stands on the Hudson Bay coast, 60 km north of Churchill, and is accessible only by air. The surroundings of tundra, coastline and boreal forest are made for exploring on foot with a guide. Beluga whales can be seen in the bay from July to August, and polar bears are the focus from October to November, with northern lights viewing possible when skies are clear.
We recommend Seal River Heritage Lodge for travellers who want to experience polar bear country on foot, with naturalist-led walking safaris and a small-group feel. The remote setting suits seasoned wildlife and photography enthusiasts, and the fireplace lounge and viewing tower give you comfortable places to unwind. It works well as the wilderness chapter of a wider Manitoba itinerary.
