La Chimere

Tucked into a quiet lane above Praia dos Ossos, La Chimère is a small pousada in the oldest part of Búzios, where fishing boats still bob in the bay. Inside, the lounge is filled with rustic furniture, pottery, abstract paintings and fresh flowers, giving it the feel of a private home. The rooms are bright and airy, finished in white with high vaulted ceilings, and some have small French balconies. They come in three categories, Standard, Superior and Deluxe, and all have air conditioning.

Mornings begin with a Brazilian breakfast of tropical fruits, juices and local sweets, served in a room that opens onto a shaded courtyard. Around the small pool, tropical plants give some welcome shade between visits to the beach, and massages are available for slower afternoons. The sand at Ossos is only a short walk away. From there, the Orla Bardot coastal path leads into town, past the bronze statue of Brigitte Bardot, to Rua das Pedras and its restaurants, boutiques and bars. When evening comes, the walk back along the water is a fitting end to a day in Búzios.
