Crouched in the heart of the Canadian Badlands is the town of Drumheller, less than two hours northeast of Calgary. The swirl of canyons, coulees and wind-scraped hoodoos that surround it was once a lush tropical paradise where dinosaurs roamed.

Visit the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology. Tour the Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site. Book ahead to get tickets for the annual Canadian Badlands Passion Play, set in a natural outdoor amphitheatre on the outskirts of town.
