Buffalo Mountain Lodge, Banff

4-star

700 Tunnel Mountain Road, Banff, Alberta, Canada

Set among nine acres of forest on Tunnel Mountain, Buffalo Mountain Lodge gives you a proper log cabin retreat just a short drive from the heart of Banff. It's a well-suited pick if you want a quieter, more rustic stay with a wood-burning fireplace in your room and forest trails right outside the door.

Location & What's Nearby

Buffalo Mountain Lodge sits on Tunnel Mountain, around a 3-minute drive from downtown Banff's shops, restaurants and nightlife. Rotary Park is a short walk away, and forest trails start right from the lodge's own grounds. Bow Falls and Surprise Corner are both a short drive if you'd rather not walk. Calgary International Airport is around a 90-minute drive.

Why We Recommend It

We often suggest Buffalo Mountain Lodge for couples wanting a genuinely peaceful, forested setting without giving up an easy drive into downtown Banff. The wood-burning fireplaces and post-and-beam architecture give it a proper mountain-cabin feel that's hard to find right on Banff Avenue, and the on-site restaurant has built a strong reputation for its Rocky Mountain cuisine. It's a good match for a romantic getaway or a quieter base for exploring Tunnel Mountain's trails. Our discovering Banff page has more on how to build it into your trip.
